Study Tours

Since Malaysia and South East Asia is a highly sought after location for workshops plus benchmarking visits and study tours for many developing countries, we have designed and developed comprehensive programmes for such visits to enable and optimize learnings from the Asian experience. We also provide information, consultancy services and contacts to organizations and individuals on the design and development of such visits. Our programmes have been consistently highly rated in its standards of delivery, superior organizational skills and professionalism on the job.

Rationale for Programme / Course / Workshop

Strategic Negotiations Study Tour

Everyone negotiates…but many of us have not learnt or been trained in the art of negotiations! We just do it on a trial and error basis. This is where we as individuals, our organisations and even nations may pay a very high price for the lack of knowledge and skills in negotiations. Every negotiation has its costs, be it financial, economic, social or emotional, and all of these affects productivity and performance and of course the bottom line for any organization. It is not a matter of getting the science right. Most of us think of negotiation as a purely rational exercise. One has to get the art right, as personality, emotions and strategic moves play a large role in most negotiations and can contribute to the success or failure to reach agreement.

Exemplary Leadership Study Tour

“Leadership” can mean many things — and can include them all, or focus only on portions of the elements that often are included in leadership development and training. The approach taken in planning this programme assumes that participants need to draw on both the managerial skills of accomplishing identified goals and providing known services (“technical” leadership) as well as providing and encouraging in the teams and stakeholders they lead the ability to participate fully in the expectation that they will also face unknown needs, unanticipated challenges and be expected to act independently in the absence of a leader’s presence. It looks at the larger and visionary facets of an individual’s capacity to lead. Some call this aspect “adaptive” leadership, for it focuses on the ability to enable individuals to draw on their own strength to solve problems and find solutions independently. It introduces leaders to the five Practices of Exemplary Leadership: Model the Way, Inspire a Shared Vision, Challenge the Process, Enable Others to Act and Encourage the Heart. It will also expose participants to working-models and best practices in the region so that they get to experience first-hand how it is done by their counterparts in the region.

Leadership Empowerment for Women Study Tour

Ever wondered why some women don’t reach their full potential, despite the best training, skills, support and effort? They know what to do and how to do it and they’re out there doing it — and still not achieving the desired results! Clearly there’s more to success than skill, knowledge and action! This is the domain of this empowerment course-with-a-difference. Most women know the theory of what to do in order to have success. But it’s who they are BEING as a woman in relation to their work and their attitudes and beliefs that ultimately supports or sabotages their efforts. The difficulty is that our own obstacles are largely invisible to us. The empowerment process is to show women what they currently cannot see, for example, where they are not speaking up or where they perceive a personal trait as a weakness instead of leveraging its strength. The empowerment process is aimed at taking women to their next level of understanding, dynamics and performance. It takes women on a journey of discovery to gain insight and power. This creates a new context of possibility and opportunity. It also enables them to have authentic conversations, and benefit from the feedback of other women in a safe and constructive way that creates powerful new paradigms and enhanced performance.

Strategic Management Study Tour

This workshop, besides exposing the course participants to the various enhanced approaches and techniques in strategic management, will also prepare them to identify the opportunities and meet the challenges posed by the ever changing environment. The course will also enhance the skills in ensuring that the developed strategies are implemented correctly and to ensure that the problems arising thereby are well handled. In order to achieve this, the course will include discussions on strategic leadership and the implementation of quality management systems. The course will be based on the premise that managers have to utilize the full potential of the people in their respective organizations to achieve organizational excellence. It is for this purpose that they must possess the interpersonal and teamwork skills. Organizational strategies will have to be formulated through the participation of people and in the implementation of these strategies their full involvement becomes the critical factor. The course will emphasize the approaches of participative management and teamwork in the performance of the various strategic leadership functions.

Agriculture Research & Extension Study Tour

Agricultural productivity growth is based largely on application of science, technology, and information, and needs to be provided through national agricultural research and extension systems. However, as a country moves forward on developing agricultural research and extension systems it can no longer rely on just traditional government systems, but must include all organizations and institutions that generate, share and use agricultural knowledge and information. It is therefore vital to strengthen the administrative capacity of the Research-Extension system at all levels of administration to contribute to a country’s mission of increasing production and productivity, sustainable management of natural resources, and improving delivery services to clients. This Seminar and Study Tour will aim to increase participants’ understanding of public sector agricultural Research & Extension systems and services – how Malaysia is structured to manage these areas, evolution and development, linkages and partnerships, opportunities and challenges. Participants will better understand the role of Malaysian federal, state and local governments in determining policy issues, which reforms will be embarked on, the contemporary concern of linking farmers to markets, the management of the organization and field operations, the issue of educating and training young agents and the on-time delivery of information and other services to farmers/herders.
