Shanta Nagendram was the founder and principal consultant of SkillFocus Consultancy Malaysia and currently an international consultant and trainer. She has conducted training for all sectors in more than 35 countries across 5 continents. She has been appointed as the lead consultant for building capacity in negotiations and leadership training by several organisations including the Commonwealth Secretariat, European Union and Institute of International Education (IIE USA) and by several governments, companies and civil society organisations. Shanta obtained her B. Economics (Hons.) from the University of Malaya and her M.Sc. in International Relations from the London School of Economics & Political Science. She was also a Fulbright Scholar and has participated in both the Basic and Advanced Negotiations workshops at the Harvard Law School. Her expertise is in leadership, negotiations, communications, presentations, cross-culture, customer service, teambuilding and womens’ empowerment.

Kenny Tay, CA (M) FCCA, CGMA, FCMA, Managing Consultant of Finet Associates, is a Chartered Accountant with many years in the Asian financial services industry involving corporate banking, project finance and capital market operations. Parallel to his financial career he was also actively involved in management development at various institutions including the Malaysian Institute of Management, the FMM Institute and the Hornsby TAFE College, Sydney, NSW. He is now a Human Capital Development consultant. Among the organisations he has worked for include the Malaysian Armed Forces Fund Board, the Chase Manhattan NA Group, the Dow Banking Corporation of Switzerland, the Royal Bank of Canada and Asia Finance Pty Ltd, Sydney, Australia.

Dr. William (“Bill”) Dant has over 30 years’ experience in the custom design, delivery and evaluation of education and leadership training programs and projects, working worldwide with public and private sector clients. Dant spent ten years in the U.S. Federal service, working in international program management positions for the U.S. Department of State and the Peace Corps.His work over several decades in the private sector has included educational leadership and management positions with three key international education and training organizations in the U.S. He now is principal of his own international education consulting firm, WPD Global Solutions, LLC. Bill’s global work includes long-term assignments in West Africa, North Africa and Europe, and short-term field work in several countries in the Middle East (Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Lebanon and Tunisia) as well as in Latin America (Mexico, Venezuela, Colombia, Guyana), Eurasia (Russia, Ukraine, Georgia, Bulgaria) and East and Southeast Asia (China, Japan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Burma and Laos). Dant holds a Ph.D. in International Education Policy & Leadership from the University of Maryland, U.S.A.; a Masters from the S.I.T. Graduate Institute in Vermont, U.S.A., and a bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University, Washington, DC. He also studied at the University of Strasbourg, France as an undergraduate, and at the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa, during his doctoral studies.

H.K. Loi has been involved in the facilitation of learning for more than 20 years. He has conducted training for both the public and corporate sectors in the areas of management. His key competencies are in creative thinking, teambuilding and the use of psychometric instruments for management development. He has 30 years of working experience, both in the public and private sectors and is presently the Principal Learning Facilitator of his own company, Innovation and Creativity Skills Training (INOCREST) Sdn. Bhd. He was with DANCED (Danish Cooperation for Environment and Development) – Krau Wildlife Project in Malaysia as their Capacity-Building Consultant (2000-2001). From 2001 – 2007, he was the country representative of Asianic Psychologists Press (Australia) for the training and distribution of Myers Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI®) in Malaysia and Brunei. Richard Jacob is an Erickson Certified Professional Coach and an HRDF Approved trainer, an American Management Association (AMA) Global Faculty Member. His core competence is in Leadership, Coaching, Strategy, Sales and Marketing and Business Finance. He has delivered training programs in Cairo, Dubai, Tokyo, Manila, Singapore, Jakarta, Lahore, Karachi, Shanghai, Beijing, Hong Kong, Saigon, Hanoi, Melbourne and Sydney. He has an MBA from Cranfield School of Management in the United Kingdom, a leading European Business School. He is an Accountant by training and was an Auditor in an international firm of Accountants for nine years. His experience comes from being a Financial Manager, Company Secretary and Business Development Manager in a leading Swedish pharmaceutical company by the name of Astra Pharmaceutical. Richard has 20 years of solid training and facilitation experience both internationally and locally. His experience includes lecturing in foreign university endorsed programs in Malaysia. Zan Azlee

Zan Azlee is a media professional based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He started his career in 2000 as a print journalist for The Sun (Malaysian national newspaper) and then as a broadcast journalist at ntv7 (Malaysian national television station). He founded Fat Bidin Media in 2003. The services he provides include directing, producing, scriptwriting, videography, news reporting/journalism and consultation for broadcast, print and New Media. His last senior position was as the Senior Editor for Digital Media at Astro AWANI, Malaysia first 24-hour news channel. He is also a contributing correspondent for CNN International, Al Jazeera International, GlobalPost (US-based news agency), The Netherlands’ VPRO Metropolis TV (award-winning Dutch documentary series), a videojournalist for VJ Movement (Dutch-based news agency) and Esquire magazine. He also wrote a column and provides video and multimedia content for The Malaysian Insider (Malaysian online news organisation). Zan is an independent filmmaker who has produced and directed numerous films that have gone on to screen at local and international film festivals such as the Malaysian Video Awards, Berlin International Film Festival, Bangkok International Film Festival, New York Asian-American Film Festival and Singapore International Documentary Film Festival. His documentaries have won awards at the Festival Filem Malaysia, Anugerah Seri Angkasa and Malaysian Video Awards. Under his company Fat Bidin Media, he has produced several feature length documentaries. His first, THE LOOK-EAST PROJECT (AKA PANDANG KE TIMUR), was commissioned by national television station ntv7 in 2007. His second feature length documentary, I’M MUSLIM TOO!, was aired in 2008, also on ntv7. THE LIFE & TIMES OF AN ISLAMIC INSURGENCY shot in 2008/2009 is his third feature length documentary. KAMPUNG BARU ALAF BARU is his fourth feature length documentary film and was broadcast on ntv7 in September 2010. Zan has written four non-fiction books which are A guide to the Internet (2003), Operation Nasi Kerabu: Finding Patani in an Islamic Insurgcncy (2007), The Adventures of a KL-ite in Afghanistan (2014) and Guide to Independent Filmmaking (2015). Zan and his company Fat Bidin Media has been involved in many television productions (news and current affairs, documentaries) for many clients such as Hallmark Channel, Discovery Travel & Living, Media Prima Bhd and ASTRO. He is also a volunteer videographer for MERCY Malaysia, a medical relief NGO. Zan holds a MA in Broadcast Journalism from Staffordshire University, UK, and is also a broadcast journalism and documentary lecturer at several local universities. He is also regularly invited to conduct lectures, talks and workshops. He has spoken at University of California Berkeley, Prince Songkhla University Thailand and at the World Islamic Economic Forum, to name a few.

Bala Thevarayan comes with more than 25 years’ of experience in various facets of Banking. Having managed, Contact Centres, the risk function and Human Resources, he is passionate about people. He is a firm believer that skills and people behaviour need to complement each other. Whilst skills can be trained, behaviours need to be influenced. In his erstwhile role, he helmed the Human Resource Function for Standard Chartered’s Global Business Services (formerly known as SCOPE International Sdn Bhd). During his tenure, an entire rebranding initiative was undertaken to correct the perception of “low cost alternative” to that of Centres of Excellence (COE), thus creating the requisite opportunities to attract the right talent and retain them. Prior to this, he was with Standard Chartered Bank, where he was instrumental in design and deployment of a regional business model which entailed several change management projects. During his stint with contact centres, he introduced scoring based methodologies in managing performance. The right behaviours that resonated with organisational values were identified and the modelling was done to enhance such behaviours. With his extensive experience in the field of People and Culture coupled with his business background, he is able to provide People related interventions with a completely non traditional HR optics.

Rahimah Yeop

Rahimah Yeop actively conducts training as a freelance consultant with some 35 years of experience behind her. Before this, Rahimah was a Senior Programme Coordinator at the Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations (IDFR), Malaysia, coordinating the Economic and Public Diplomacy Programme at IDFR since January 1996. She conducts workshops and lectures in areas of negotiations, communication skills, liaison duties, cross-cultural communication, protocol, social and dining etiquette, personal grooming and media skills. In that 35 years in the Malaysian Government, she served in the Prime Minister’s department, Consulate of Malaysia in Sydney Australia; the Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations (IDFR) and the National Institute of Public Administration (INTAN). Other than government departments, she has also facilitated courses for the private sector, banks, universities, schools, NGOs and overseas – Brunei, Myanmar, Tanzania and India. Before joining the Malaysian civil service, she was a journalist with The New Straits Times. Rahimah attained her Diploma in Mass Communication majoring in Journalism from UITM and an M.A. in Journalism and International Affairs from Ohio University, USA. She also has a Diploma in Public Administration from INTAN, attended a course on “Train the Trainer” under the auspices of the Commonwealth Secretariat and Effective Presentation Skills from Peter Rogen Malaysia. She also attended a Seminar on Negotiations in Singapore – jointly organized by the University of Singapore, Harvard Negotiation Project and CMI Claris and also a Negotiation Workshop under the Program of Instruction for Lawyers at the Harvard Law School in June 2002. Rahimah is also a certified City & Guilds facilitator.
